Investor Category
Business Investor category caters for applicants who wish to contribute to New Zealand in financial and human capital. The current investor policy is divided into two categories:
1. Investor Plus (Investor 1 Category):
Under this category, investors who are willing to invest a minimum of NZ$10 million for three years in an acceptable investment within New Zealand can obtain permanent residency regardless of their age, business experience and English language proficiency. This means investors (and their dependent family members) under the Investor Plus policy are not required to speak or understand English. The investors under this policy are not required to have previous business experience. Their age is also not a factor. They can be 18 years old or 80 years old. As long as they are able to show that they acquired the investment money legally and own the money solely or with their partner or children, they can apply for residence and will be granted permanent residence in New Zealand.
The investors under this policy must be able to transfer their investment funds to New Zealand through banking system. They should also live in New Zealand for a minimum of 73 days in each of the last two years of the three-year investment period.
2. Investor (Investor 2 Category):
Investors under this policy must be 65 years or younger, have three years of business experience and should be able to invest a minimum of NZ$1.5 million for four years in New Zealand. They must also have an additional amount of NZ$1 million for settlement funds. They should also have basic understanding of English language (eg. an IELTS report with overall band score of 3 or more).
Investors under this policy must live in New Zealand for a minimum of 146 days in each of the last three years of the four-year investment period. They should also be able to transfer the investment funds to New Zealand through banking system. Unlike the Investor Plus policy which allows investors to lodge an application for residence directly, investors under the Investor 2 Category must initially submit an Expression of Interest to Immigration New Zealand (INZ) to apply for residence. If they meet the requirements of this policy, the INZ will invite them to prepare and file an application for residence. They can then submit an application for residence under this policy.
Investors under both of the above policies must be healthy and have no criminal records in any country.
